IPRC and POWERTECH MARINE - MAY 13th
Launching from 7.45 am on the slipway. First come first served.
Start of event 10 am from Northney Marina
Close of event 4.30 pm
HOW IT WORKS:
Participants meet at Northey Marina around 7.45am. Boats will be trailer launched from 7.45am so the earlier you get there the longer you have to sort out your kit. Register your boat and crew so that we know who is on the water.
We will provide you with the locations to collect your cards.
When the clock starts you may take any route you wish to collect at least 5 cards.
The start is at 10am
Each team must provide details of the boat and passengers before entry. You must all wear lifejackets at all times and adhere to all speed limits.
Team will pick up details of the locations on the morning where they can collect cards. You will find out which location we are using on the day. We advise that you bring some cash for drinks along the way (Hint hint!)
Each participant is given an entry card which will be presented as they progress along the route. At each designated stop, the participants draw or will be given a card at random in a sealed envelope. The stops are all along the Solent so you must be capable for traveling at least 20 miles before re-fuelling.
Collect your cards and bring them to the finish.
When all the teams are home or the time has elapsed bring your hand to the office and record the hand you have drawn. The winner of the event is the participant who makes the best five card poker hand at the end of the event.
There are a total of six or seven locations and they are mostly on shore so you will need to tie up to collect the cards apart from one location situated offshore (dependent upon weather). All of the locations are within the Solent area or Langstone Harbour.
Once you have the locations you navigate to the location of your choice and collect an envelope with a card. These are randomly allocated.
After the event starts you have a limited time to work out the best route and to collect at least five cards. When the time expires all teams have 20 further minutes to register their scores. Teams who are late are disqualified.
Throughout the event the harbour speed limits apply. Any teams found breaking the speed limits either by the organisers, card boats or harbour master will be disqualified. There is no need to break the speed limits withing the harbour.
Cards are randomly allocated and we will use 3 packs of 52 cards.
It is possible to get all identical cards.
Each card will be placed into an unmarked envelope and shuffled before being distributed.
If there is a draw a new pack of cards will be used for a split after shuffling to determine which hand is the winner.
The winning hand will consist of 5 cards. Teams securing 7 cards can select any 5 from the seven. The remaining two cards will be ignored and do not count.
All entrants are invited to join us at Powertech for engine demonstrations, drinks and BBQ.
There is a cans bar and we ask for a £1 donation per can towards the cost of the event with proceeds going to the RNLI
